    Business Development Specialist
    Richmond, VA

    The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is seeking a Business Development Specialist to assist with the management of the Tourism Development Financing Program (TDFP) and the Virginia Tourism Growth Fund (VTGF), the agency’s tourism development incentive programs. This work supports VTC’s fulfillment of the Commonwealth’s State Tourism Plan by increasing economic development and growth for the Virginia’s tourism industry through developing diverse tourism assets and products giving Virginia a competitive edge in the global, tourism economy.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Managing industry inquiries for both programs via telephone, email and video conferencing
    • Scheduling and meeting with potential applicants to discuss specific projects
    • Presenting programs’ scope, funding mechanisms and application process to small and large groups
    • Managing and monitoring application process, including communications and data collection
    • Reviewing applications for eligibility and Virginia code compliance
    • Assisting in conducting tourism-based product development research
    • Preparing status reports on both funding programs

    The successful applicant must have:

    • Familiarity with business and financial principles and practice
    • Experience effectively meeting and presenting to a wide range of audience sizes
    • Demonstrated skill using the Microsoft Office Suite software (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Effective verbal, written and editing communication skills for multi-channels
    • Ability to learn and use current and emerging CRM management software, such as Salesforce
    • Experience using current audio/visual technology and file formats

    The successful applicant must be able to:

    • Display professionalism and comfort level meeting with and presenting to local, regional and state officials
    • Prioritize work and effectively manage multiple projects
    • Exhibit sound judgment in making decisions
    • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    • Work collaboratively and independently within a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Work well under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters
    • Travel on day-trips and overnight stays for work; 1 to 2-times per week

    A Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in business and public administration or policy with 1-3 years of experience

    Hiring range: $41,000 -$55,000.

    Intern Openings in VTC's Public Relations

    VTC's Public Relations department has a limited number of intern openings in the Richmond office for public relations/journalism students throughout the year. All positions are unpaid and must be used for school credit, flexible hours are available. Interns can expect a variety of public relations and basic office experiences, including the opportunity to work on public relations projects.
