    TOURISM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

    The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is seeking a Tourism Development Specialist to primarily serve the upper Shenandoah Valley region and surrounding areas of Virginia.  The specialist will facilitate the development of community-based tourism programs, new product and tourism-related businesses, including a focus on outdoor recreation, music, arts, culinary, and other key tourism attraction and amenity development.  Responsibilities include providing tourism strategic planning, technical assistance, product development guidance, cooperative marketing advice and consulting services to communities.

    The successful applicant must have a comprehensive knowledge of tourism development and marketing, economic development planning, and professional leadership and community development.  Considerable knowledge of strategic planning, goal setting, community visioning and value development, and project planning and implementation preferred.  The Tourism Development Specialist must be able to effectively manage multiple projects; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; deliver presentations; work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment; exhibit sound judgment in making decisions; and maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters.  The successful applicant must have the ability to telecommute and/or work independently from a home office.  The successful applicant will have experience using multiple software packages including the Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software.  Degree or equivalent experience in business, public administration, marketing, hospitality or related field preferred.  Considerable travel and evening meetings within the coverage area is required, including regular trips to the Richmond office.  A valid driver’s license is required.  Salary minimum of $54,400.

    Tourism Counselor
    (Part-Time)

    East Coast Gateway Welcome Center, New Kent, VA

    The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is seeking a Tourism Counselor for its East Coast Gateway Welcome Center.  This individual will provide travel information and assistance to the traveling public, restock brochure racks, assist the welcome center manager with daily operations and perform general office duties.

    The candidate must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and lift up to 30 pounds.  Holiday and weekend work is required.  Knowledge of Virginia’s travel product, roads and highway systems and travel industry experience preferred.  Basic computer skills and knowledge of the internet is a plus.  High school diploma required.  Salary minimum: $11.15/hour.

    VTC's Public Relations department has a limited number of intern openings in the Richmond office for public relations/journalism students throughout the year. All positions are unpaid and must be used for school credit, flexible hours are available. Interns can expect a variety of public relations and basic office experiences, including the opportunity to work on public relations projects.
