The Crooked Road
The Crooked Road seeks a creative place-maker, executive and leader to bring a spirit of excitement, sparking our mission of economic development through traditional music and tourism initiatives. The ideal candidate will build consensus, deftly fundraise and reliably manage finances and people, working with local governments, tourism agencies, musicians and funders to boost the creative economy over a 330-mile physical trail and 19-county region through heritage and natural resources.
This position develops and executes a strategic vision for growth of heritage-related assets and enterprises as directed by The Crooked Road Board of Directors, structuring and leading a small staff to direct traditional music presentation and education. Support eight major venues, affiliated venues and hundreds of traditional musicians by developing performance opportunities, festival events and tours. Create media opportunities, social media and Internet engagement and local support for Crooked Road initiatives.
The board will give preference to candidates who have experience administering and fundraising for arts organizations and non-profits, but are open to candidates with a variety of experiences. Director of Economic and Cultural Placemaking
Community Development, Town of Rocky Mount
Do you know how to get to “yes” on complex challenges and orchestrate events involving many players? Are you interested in working with a winning team and taking over the reins of the best music venue in the East Coast? Rocky Mount is looking for a person who knows that placemaking is the cornerstone of economic development, who will lead our cultural development activities, including the Harvester Performance Center, then close the deal with the business that are attracted to that success.
This person will oversee the Town’s development activities through place making and special events and negotiate with prospective business not only for our industrial cities but throughout our fast growing retail segments. If you understand how 5,000 people visiting a sidewalk art show and 2,000 people attending musical events results in economic development and business growth, this job might be for you.
