    Adventure Tourism Outdoor & Recreation Program and Course Information

    The Adventure Tourism and Outdoor Recreation program at Southwest Virginia Community College will provide training to develop a workforce for the outdoor recreation industry and to stimulate economic development. The Adventure Tourism and Outdoor Recreation programs, activities and events at Southwest Virginia Community College are a unique blend of entrepreneurship, tourism, and recreation. Whether you are interested in starting your own adventure tourism businesses, work for an outdoor based business, become a guide or outfitter, work in a local, state or national park, gain knowledge to keep yourself safe or just have fun, we have the program, activity or event for you. In addition, we have non-credit courses in specific subject area, many of which prepare students for national certifications.

    Entrepreneur Express Workshops – Moving Your Business Forward

    The Entrepreneur Express Workshops are designed to provide information on available business resources and deliver practical, hands-on training covering key elements of business practice. Workshop segments include information on how to start and operate a business, grow an existing business, marketing strategies, financing and locating available resources.     Noon Knowledge Lunch Series

    The Noon Knowledge Series is a FREE weekly series presented by the Virginia Highlands Small Business Incubator, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Virginia Department of Small Business & Supplier Diversity and VHCC Workforce Development & Continuing Education designed for all local

    entrepreneurs and professionals interested in building skills in a variety of topics. Sessions are designed for the 60 to 90 minute format and offer practical and inspiring interactive learning experiences for groups of up to 25 participants. 

    Topics include:

    • Excel, finance, pricing and management

    • Leadership, laws, policies & procedures development

    • Marketing, social media, public and media relations

    • Technology, website, cyber security, SEO

    • Over 30 sessions available starting June 2016 thru May 2017

    VECTEC offers Matching Grant for Electronic Marketing Services

    The Virginia Electronic Commerce Technology Center (VECTEC) offers a wide array of education programs including Technology Short Courses, Web Site Workshops and Electronic Commerce Forums across the state of Virginia. Vectec, Inc. is a non-profit technology and education solutions center.  Their mission is to promote economic competitiveness and development by sponsoring, developing and implementing eServices for primarily small to medium sized businesses.     University of the Potomac Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management

    The University of the Potomac (UOTP) offers a Bachelor ofScience in Hospitality and Tourism Management (BS-HTM) degree that prepares students for managerial positions in the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as for the development of human resources in this field.

    The UOTP is seeking to initiate Strategic Partnerships with organizations and businesses in the hospitality and tourism industry.  Located in Northern Virginia and in Washington DC, classes are offered totally online.

      The partnership would include:
    • Discounted educational opportunities group participation at the AS, BS and Masters level
    • Work Study programs for students in the BS-HTM program
    • Adjunct Faculty appointments for qualified industry participants
