Virginia Tourism and its Virginia Green program announce partnership with Keep Virginia Beautiful to help celebrate its efforts to
    Keep Virginia Beautiful

Scenic beauty, abundant natural resources, and a clean environment. These are the things that we as Virginians treasure; and it is what brings people to Virginia to explore, relax, and enjoy.

Since 1953, Keep Virginia Beautiful has been bringing Virginians together to build and protect Virginia’s vibrant communities through litter prevention, waste reduction & recycling, beautification, and education.

Virginia Green is the state’s partnership program to promote green practices in tourism. More than 1300 Virginia Green partners have committed to implement green practices within their operations. Environmentally-savvy visitors can “travel green” by looking for Virginia Green registered partners wherever they travel in Virginia via www.VirginiaGreenTravel.org.

In honor of its 60th anniversary, the Virginia Tourism Corporation and its Virginia Green program have pledged to promote all of the activities associated with the year-long celebration of Keep Virginia Beautiful. These activities include:

    • GIVE 60
      • GIVE 60 is the critical centerpiece campaign for the entire year-long celebration. It engages individuals, families, businesses and organizations to simply give 60 minutes of their time volunteering on projects to clean up, recycle, or otherwise beautify their community.

    • Get Caught in a Beautiful Act
      • A photo-/video-based contest to spotlight and award individuals, families, or groups that are photographed while giving back to their community through clean-ups, recycling, and/or beautification projects.

    • 30 GRANTS IN 30 DAYS
      • In May and June of 2013, KVB will give 30 grants to 30 community groups (schools, non-profits, church groups, cities, counties, parks, etc.) throughout Virginia to support litter prevention, recycling programs, and beautification efforts.

    • 60th Anniversary Gala at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
      • KVB will be hosting an Anniversary Gala at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday, October 5th. Confirmed honored guests will include all 10 of the living First Ladies of Virginia, many of whom have been avid supporters of Keep Virginia Beautiful. The evening will include music, dining, and fine art in celebration of Virginia.

Virginia Green is an active partner with Keep Virginia Beautiful and it is encouraging all of its partners to participate in the activities related to KVB’s 60th anniversary. Primarily it is challenging participants to engage their staffs to “GIVE 60” minutes for the environment in some sort of clean-up, recycling, or other beautification activity. It’s the perfect way to demonstrate environmental commitment to their surrounding community and a great team-building exercise for staff.

Virginia Tourism Corporation is a sponsor of the 60th Anniversary Gala and is encouraging all of its regional partners to help promote all of the events related to the 60th anniversary of Keep Virginia Beautiful. VTC plans to promote the GIVE 60 campaign throughout the year.
