Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center – Norfolk
The first cruise terminal to comply fully with the Homeland Security standards established since 9/11/01, this sparkling 80,000-square-foot facility will be Virginia’s gateway to the romance of ocean travel and will offer pre- and post-cruise day trips nearby. Royal Caribbean International will call this port home beginning in April 2007 and will join Holland America and Carnival Cruise lines in offering regular service to the Bahamas and the Southern Caribbean on vessels such as Royal Caribbean’s 692-foot Empress of the Seas. More than 15,000 square feet of meeting space and 13,000 square-foot terrace overlooking the Elizabeth River make this a destination in itself.
Lovingston Winery – Lovingston
Virginia vines are spreading across the commonwealth as 2006 saw the opening of Virginia’s 100th winery. More are on the way, including Lovingston Winery, opening in April 2007. Nestled on the shoulder of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the vineyard focuses on small-lot, high-quality wines.
City Center at Oyster Point - Newport News
Urban festival marketplace with shopping, dining and regularly scheduled ongoing events. Retailers include Ann Taylor Loft, Bo Essentials, Bubbles, Ceriello Fine Foods, Chico’s, Coldwater Creek, Fab Foods by Medik’s Market, Hauser’s Jewelers, Hi-Ho Silver J. Jill, Jos.A.Bank, The Mole Hole, Ohm Spa Sanctuary, Sisters Unique, SunGlass Hut, Talbots, Talbots Petites and Ten Thousand Villages. Restaurants opening summer and fall 2006 include Aromas Specialty Coffees & Bake Shop, Colangelo’s Gelato, Firkin & Frigate Pub, Great Wraps, Hayashi Japanese Cuisine, Jamestown Pie Company, Maggie Moo’s and Wired Cyber Café. Opened summer 2006.
Port Warwick – Newport News
Urban village with shopping, dining and regularly scheduled ongoing events. Retailers include The Boutique, Femmes & Fidos Boutique, Fruit Flowers, Ignatius, Khakis, The Rocking Horse, Signature Style and Walk This Way. Restaurants opened summer and fall 2006 include Grape Seed Deli, Kelly’s Tavern, Portside Pharmacy’s Old-Fashioned Soda Fountain and Thaijindesu Thai & Sushi Bar.
Jump Over Jeff – Newport News
New mass-transportation option between City Center at Oyster Point and Port Warwick allows visitors and residents to go quickly and conveniently from one major shopping and entertainment center to another. Service runs daily, at least every 25 minutes,10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Fare is 25¢. Opened June 2006.
Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum – Colonial Williamsburg
New 10,400-square-foot home houses one of the world’s finest collections of folk art. New exhibits include American folk portraits, stoneware, farm-related paintings and objects, objects of mourning, landscapes, patriotic art, musical instruments, early quilts and coverlets and silhouettes. Opened December 2006.
