State Tourism Office Talks Dollars and Sense for National Tourism Week (May 10-18)
-State travel partners unify to celebrate Virginia’s $17.7 billion tourism industry-
Virginia’s state tourism office will join with travel partners across the state to highlight the power of tourism during National Tourism Week (May 10 -18). Tourism is one of Virginia’s most powerful industries, generating $17.7 billion in visitor spending, supporting 208,000 jobs and providing $1.2 billion in state and local taxes to Virginia’s communities.

Virginia Connects the Green Dots for Eco-Conscious Travelers with New Web Site

-VirginiaGreenTravel.org makes green travel convenient for travelers passionate about the environment-

Virginia's state tourism office today launched VirginiaGreenTravel.org, a new Web site dedicated to environmentally friendly travel in Virginia. The new travel site supports Virginia Green, a partnership between the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) that promotes environmentally friendly practices in Virginia's tourism industry.

Governor Kaine Announces Virginia's Crooked Road and Wilderness Road Featured in New National Geographic Map

~ Appalachian Driving Tours Map showcases cultural and heritage tourism sites ~

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today celebrated Virginia's role in the new Appalachian Driving Tours Map, a partnership of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and National Geographic Society. The map insert will be in the April issue of National Geographic Traveler and features 28 driving trails in the nation's Appalachian Region.  Nearly 20 sites along Virginia' Crooked Road and Wilderness Road, from bluegrass venues to state parks, are highlighted as part of an effort to increase tourism in Appalachia.

Virginia invites all garden fanatics and history buffs to live passionately this spring during the 75th anniversary Historic Garden Week. Perennial passions bloom April 19-27, 2008 with nearly 40 regional tours at more than 200 private homes and gardens and iconic historic sites such as Monticello, Mount Vernon, Montpelier and others.  Historic Garden Week is the oldest and largest statewide home and garden tour event in the country.

Governor Kaine Applauds Economic and Tourism Impact of John Adams

~ Filming of new HBO series in Virginia generates $80 million and showcases historic tourism sites ~

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today applauded the positive economic and tourism impact of the new HBO miniseries, John Adams. John Adams was filmed largely in Virginia at locations in Williamsburg and the Richmond area, spending an estimated $80 million in the Commonwealth. The film's Virginia premiere was Sunday at the historic Byrd Theater in Richmond and attended by Governor Kaine, producer Tom Hanks, author David McCullough and Paul Giamatti, who starred as John Adams.
