September 2012
In this issue Note from the President

Rita McClenny By now you have read or heard Governor McDonnell’s wonderful news announcing that 2011 tourism revenues in Virginia exceeded $20 billion for the first time. That reflects an eight percent increase over 2010 – a considerable figure considering today’s economy. In 2011 tourism also supported 207,000 Virginia jobs and provided $1.32 billion in state and local taxes. Tourism remains one of Virginia’s largest industries and is a major contributor to the economic well-being of the Commonwealth. Let there be no doubt, though, that this good news is not solely a result of Virginia’s natural beauty, incredible history or great family attractions and destinations. It is also due to the efforts of Virginia’s statewide tourism team. Everyone who has a hand in developing, maintaining and marketing our incomparable tourism product needs to feel proud of this accomplishment. It gives me great pride to be a part of our community of tourism professionals throughout Virginia. Let’s all take time today to reflect on this great accomplishment and look forward to the expectation of more good news next year.

Rita McClenny

    Venue and Address
When adding your address and location information in your listing on Virginia.org, do not list your venue/location name in the first address line. Google does not recognize the non-address in that field and will therefore not map your location properly. Events and exhibits, and packages and deals all have the Venue field provided with the listing.
