Rita McClenny Tourism Works for Virginia ~ Celebrate National Tourism Week

National Tourism Week is May 5-13 and I hope you will take advantage of this national effort to tout the economic power of the tourism industry.  Tourism is an instant revenue generator for Virginia that provides $19 billion in revenue, supports 204,000 jobs for Virginians and provides $1.3 billion in state and local tax revenue for our communities.

We are fortunate to have the support of the Governor and the General Assembly who believe that tourism is a smart investment for Virginia - one that creates jobs and revenue.  During National Tourism Week, make time to call upon your state and local officials and let them know the positive impact of tourism in your communities.  Reach out to your local media with positive story ideas about the power of travel and tourism.  Tout the economic impact to your boards, committees, staff and stakeholders.  Use the Vatc.org research section to find important facts and figures that you can use in your outreach.

We also need your support when the Vote Travel Bus makes a stop in Virginia Beach on May 16.  It’s the only stop in Virginia and we are excited to have this opportunity to talk about the power of Virginia's tourism industry on a national level. We encourage every member of the Virginia tourism industry to attend this rally and prove that Virginians know how to show support for our industry.  Please join with VTC and the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau on Wednesday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. at King Neptune Park on 31st and Atlantic in Virginia Beach as we show that Tourism Works for Virginia!  RSVP to Brande Rumpf at brumpf@vbgov.com or (757) 385-6624.
