High Bridge Trail State Park
eNewsletter for the Virginia Tourism Industry
July 2012
In this issue Note from the President

Rita McClenny The summer travel season is upon us and with it comes good news: AAA has forecasted record-level visitation for Virginia for the July 4th holiday and that tells us Virginia continues to be a top-of-mind destination with the summer traveler. That’s no surprise, as Virginia adds more and more opportunities for travelers who like to get out with their families in the warm weather to have some fun and relax.

Virginia’s State Parks are seeing their own surge in visitors this year. After hosting record numbers over Memorial Day Weekend total visitation at State Parks through May 31 was 2.6 million -  up 13.7 percent from the same time last year. One new addition helping to boost that number is High Bridge Trail State Park in Central Virginia. A former railroad bed dating to the 1800s, the trail is ideal for bicyclists, horseback riders and hikers as it meanders 31 miles through a scenic landscape and across the spectacular historic “High Bridge” for which the landmark trail is named. The terrain is flat and the surface is smooth crushed limestone, making the trail perfect for a family bike or equestrian excursion.

Whether on two wheels or four, afoot or afloat, summer in Virginia is a magical time for family togetherness exploring outdoors. Visitors certainly appreciate our grand hospitality and I know you appreciate their business in your locality.

Rita McClenny
Interim President and CEO
