eNewsletter for the Virginia Tourism Industry
January 2012
In this issue Note from the President

Alisa BaileyAt this time of year, it gives us all an opportunity to look back at what we accomplished together and to look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

Last year with support from Governor McDonnell and the Virginia General Assembly, and in partnership with the tourism industry, potential travelers from out of state were exposed to our television spots for the first time in four years.  We passed and implemented the Tourism Development Financing Program, allowing localities to address gap financing for tourism projects. Virginia.org was overhauled and is experiencing record unique visitors. To round out a strong year, Virginia snagged a major motion picture—Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, which will result in $35 million in economic impact.

We are excited about 2012 with added resources for marketing and grants proposed in the Governor’s budget and we are taking on the important task of developing a statewide tourism development plan, with nine regional plans, that will serve as a blueprint for us to improve the customer experience and attract record numbers to our state.

On behalf of the staff at VTC, we thank all of you for your support, guidance and participation as we move Virginia tourism forward.
