President's Notes

With recent news about the economy headed for -- or already in -- a recession, it is time to reflect upon how Virginia will stabilize our industry. More than ever, marketing will need to be more impactful, strategic and innovative.

Let's start with impactful. The Live Passionately Campaign seeks to bring back Virginia Is For Lovers in a meaningful way by tapping into the intrinsic need to travel and the passionate traveler, is in full swing. Just as we have done in the travel guide, we are featuring passionate portraits of Virginians in the tourism industry on our website and in our public relations tactics. This is already getting a positive return. Tourists want to relate to real people with real passions.

Strategic -- this campaign will be targeted specifically at the DC market to capitalize on the time-poor Washingtonians and their need to get away.

Finally, innovative -- our website continues to be ranked among the top three (often number one) state tourism websites. Stay tuned for the next iteration of the passionality website as we keep the customer engaged and drill deeper and deeper into Virginia.org in an interesting manner.

A slow time is not the time to cut back marketing efforts, and we are committed to bringing strategy, innovation and effective messaging in a big way. We can only do this in an impactful way. If you haven't already, become a tourism partner and participate in one of our many cooperative marketing efforts.

buttonVTC Marketing Leverage Program Spring 2008 Applications Close April 1, 2008

Additional requirements contained in the VTC Marketing Leverage Program Application and Guidelines must also be met. Awards will be announced in late April 2008. Applications can be downloaded from http://www.vatc.org/development/funding.asp.
