President's Notes

VTC and your colleagues in Southwest Virginia are looking for your help! Throughout the year VTC does a number of promotions, particularly in areas of promising tourism growth.  Recently, with the help of Governor Kaine, we kicked off our newest cutting edge promotion for  The Crooked Road Music Heritage Trail Sweepstakes. Created in 2004, the Crooked Road is one of Virginia’s newest heritage tourism destinations, which connects legendary bluegrass and traditional mountain music venues together in a 250-mile driving tour through the mountain towns of Southwest Virginia.  The promotion employs the newest software, whereby online visitors can build their own bluegrass song and send it to family and friends' phone or eMail to hear it! Part of the promotion is to register for a Grand Prize, a trip through Virginia’s Southwest ‘Crooked Road Music Heritage Trail’ and a guitar or mandolin, hand-crafted by two of Virginia's premier luthiers. VTC is testing this promotion that involves “viral email marketing” supported only by public relations. By sending this to family and friends, you will be helping VTC evaluate the effectiveness of this marketing for future promotions. Please spread the word and join in on the fun by building lots of tailor-made songs and send them on to your family and friends, and promote Virginia’s music and this exciting new Web site

Things are not what they used to be “down on the farm.”  Just like traditional manufacturing, agriculture has seen many changes in the past years.  Today’s farm operations are tapping into the growing agritourism arena.   This series of workshops will define agritourism and offer success stories – and challenges faced – by the agricultural community.  Download the PDF for more information.
